The Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) Mammography Department has applied for and received a grant fromIMG_2619 the Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness Trust.

This grant is used to cover the costs of mammograms for the patients of the Community Healthcare Clinic in Greensburg. The Community Healthcare Clinic provides health care to the people of Decatur County who are at poverty level according to federal guidelines. These patients pay $5 to see a health care provider.

The grant received by the hospital will pay for the screening mammograms of 20 patients seen at the clinic. Darci Myers, Community Healthcare Clinic director, expressed gratitude for the grant.

“The Community Healthcare Clinic is very grateful that DCMH has funds available to provide low income women with their yearly mammogram,” Myers said. “Many low income women would not get this important screening done without this assistance.”

Carol Blasdel, RT (R)(M)(CT), of the mammography department, is encouraging community members to purchase a breast cancer awareness license plate. The funds for these grants given to providers around Indiana are 100 percent reliant on the sale of the breast cancer awareness license plate, Blasdel said.

Blasdel said she wished to remind patients those who are not patients of the Community Health Care Clinic that DCMH has another grant option that available. The Hospital Foundation of Decatur County has a Mammogram Assistance Fund that helps pay for the cost of mammography services if the patient qualifies.
