NewYearbaby 003

GREENSBURG – A young Greensburg couple welcomed the first baby born in Decatur County in 2016 earlier this week and said they are delighted to bring their newborn bundle of joy home and begin their life together.

Jordan Einhaus, 26, gave birth to Owen Walter Einhaus at 6:21 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, at Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH). Owen is the first baby born in Greensburg in 2016 and received the proverbial royal treatment in the hospital’s obstetrics and gynecological services department prior to being released and going home for the first time Tuesday.

The newborn is the first child of Jordan and husband Tyler who were wed Oct. 25, 2014. The couple calls the Tree City home and said they are excited to begin their new family life.

One other family member, who has been home awaiting the return of Jordan and the chance to meet Owen for the first time, might be just as jubilant at the homecoming.

The Einhaus’ dog, Piper, appears just as happy to have a new addition to the family, as Jordan told the Daily News the friendly Akita is getting accustomed to the baby’s scent via some blankets and a hat she sent home.

Piper’s “baby brother” and his joyous parents anticipated going home Tuesday following a flurry of visits from ecstatic family and friends in the preceding days. Rightly the recipients of a great deal of jubilant attention, Jordan and Tyler said becoming parents for the first time is a unique joy all its own.

Jordan, a graduate of Hamilton Southeastern High School who works as a sales representative for Merck Animal Health, beamed at her new found motherhood when she spoke by phone with the Daily News this week.

“It’s really exciting,” she said Monday afternoon. “I’m really happy. It’s a great feeling to have a family.”

Tyler, a Jac-Cen-Del High School graduate who works as assistant farrowing manager at Ag Productions in Greensburg, is equally happy to be a dad for the first time.

Tyler described fatherhood as something for which he’s always hoped.

“He can’t wait to put a ball in his hand,” Jordan said of her husband’s future sports-themed plans with their son.

Playing catch with their little boy is still a bit of a ways off, but the happy parents said Owen’s room is decorated and ready for him – and doubtlessly for dozens more visitors eager to congratulate the joyous parents and the newest addition to their family.

“He’s definitely a lucky baby,” Jordan said. “He’s going to have a lot of visitors.”

Several family members and friends visited the newborn in the hospital since the boy was born early Sunday, Jordan said.

“Family came by first and then some friends stopped by,” the new mother mentioned Monday. “There will be a lot more. Some are waiting for us to get settled in.”

Jordan said Owen weighed 7 pounds and four ounces and was 21 inches long at birth. In addition to well-wishes and presents from family and friends, the couple and their new baby were presented gifts from DCMH honoring the boy as the first child born locally in the new year.
