STAR Award Winner

Casey Bierhaus, RN, is the 2026 Q2 STAR Award Winner. She began her DCMH career a little over 10 years ago as an Emergency Department Tech/Unit Coordinator and is now a Registered Nurse in the same department.

Casey holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Xavier University. She resides just outside of Westport, IN, and is married to Chris, an EMT at DCMH. Together, they have three sons, Tilden, Clint, and Tucker. Casey and Chris’s story begins at DCMH, where they met in the Emergency Department and where he eventually proposed.

Outside of her role, Casey enjoys outdoor activities, including riding horses, camping, boating, working on the farm, and spending time with family and friends.

Casey’s selflessness, team spirit, and compassion led to her STAR nomination. Her nominator highlighted her incredible ability to put her patients and team before herself. She can identify a need and see it filled. When a patient’s glasses were destroyed in a workplace incident, Casey took the time to call the eye doctor and order a replacement pair, providing some relief in a difficult situation.

She values her team, and her nominator noted that Casey is always checking in, bringing in treats and other small gifts, and ensuring her fellow team members feel valued, seen, and appreciated. She is willing to guide her team, serving as a resource whenever needed.

Casey is clear about how much her team means to her, noting that she sees them as not just coworkers, but family. She feels her team and family’s support have helped her be most successful in her role. For those looking to find similar success, Casey has encouraging and insightful advice: “It’s okay to ask for help. You will have some tough days, but also some great days where a life was saved, and it makes it all worth it.”
