Volunteering at DCMH
Decatur County Memorial Hospital has volunteer opportunities available to assist our patients and visitors while promoting a caring, compassionate environment in a prompt and courteous manner.
Volunteers may help with a variety of tasks such as greeting visitors, providing wheelchair transport, providing direction of hospitality areas within the hospital and accompanying visitors as needed, and helping with tasks and special projects as needed. DCMH volunteers provide non-medical assistance, which assists our team members, patients, and visitors.
Your gift of time truly makes a difference in the lives of our patients and our community.
Volunteers share a common desire to help others and are vital to the success of our community hospital. Volunteer hours and schedules are flexible and can vary.
Qualities we look for in volunteers include:
- Possess a cheerful, pleasant attitude and willingness to take an interest in the patient, his or her family, and visitors
- Demonstrate trustworthiness, dependability, and promptness in responding to assignments
- Participate in volunteer orientation, volunteer training, and educational opportunities
- Ability to push an occupied wheelchair and walk distances while accompanying guests to different locations throughout the hospital
- Observe hospital regulations and wear the designated volunteer uniform and hospital identification badge
- Maintain all patient information in strict confidence
When Do I Volunteer?
- Monday – Friday during daytime hours
- Volunteers are able to choose the day(s) and hours they are scheduled
- We ask that volunteers commit to at least 6 months and to at least 8 hours per month
- To help us plan effectively, we kindly ask that all volunteers commit to a minimum of 2 hours per shift. We are happy to offer flexibility in terms of days and times. Please let us know on the application:
- The days you are available
- The time frames you are open to volunteering (e.g. mornings or afternoons)
- Any specific scheduling needs or limitations you may have
