The Hospital Foundation of Decatur County would like to announce their new Foundation Director, Susan Burkhart.
Susan was born and raised in Greensburg, Indiana. After attending Greensburg Community High School, she went on to complete her bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Communications at Ball State University. Susan has been employed at her family business Doerflinger Insurance Agency for over 20 years. She currently resides in Greensburg with her husband of 21 years, Daniel Burkhart, and their daughter, Ellie.
Susan has had many years of experience with the Hospital Foundation. She has been a board member since 2012 and served as president for two years. For the past four years, she has been a part of the Foundation’s Gala committee, which she stated, “This committee has been so much fun and a great learning experience that will help me as a Director.”
Susan was also the co-creator of the annual fundraising event, Tee Off “Fore” Tata’s. This event helps raise dollars and awareness for the Pink Ribbon Fund, which assists those who do not have health insurance or that cannot afford a mammogram. This fund also helps with diagnostic tests that may be associated with abnormal mammograms.
When asked what she is most looking forward to in her new role as Director, she answered, “I can’t wait to meet the entire staff at the Hospital. Every time I am at the hospital whether it is for a board meeting or to check in at the Gift Shop, I see so many friendly faces. By getting to know them and by working together we can create a better hospital.”
When Susan heard about this opportunity, she said, “I knew it was time to take the leap, time for a change. I have found that I have a passion for the hospital and being a 5 year board member has helped confirm my decision.”
The Foundation’s Mission is to develop funding to support the health care initiatives of DCMH and improve the quality of life of our community. The hospital is a not for profit organization and the Foundation helps to fulfill healthcare needs in our community. The Foundation’s goal is to help improve/enhance the patient experience while at the hospital as well as improve the health of our community.
Susan says her first goal as Director will be, “To introduce myself to the community in my new role. I have been a part of Doerflinger Insurance for 22 years. I want to spread the word about what the Foundation does for the community. My top goal is to make the Hospital Foundation a household name when it comes to wanting to make a donation AND when someone would like to volunteer. Community involvement is KEY.”
