The students and faculty at IU School of Nursing at IUPUC select a Preceptor of the Year from each of the counties sponsoring their student cohorts. They honor the recipients at their annual Advisory Council meeting and have the privilege of hearing some of their insights on being a preceptor. These nurses demonstrate excellence in their roles as preceptors and were chosen for their clinical knowledge, communication skills, professional work ethic, and leadership ability. The individual attention they provide in clinical and community settings while sharing their expertise is invaluable to the students.

Decatur County Memorial Hospital is proud to have a nurse 2 years in a row be recognized at this meeting, Tammy Sidell, 2017 Preceptor of the Year and Dennis Kuykendall, 2018 Preceptor of the Year.

Tammy has been with DCMH since January 1987 and works full-time in Obstetrics assisting with education and simulation within her specialty. Dennis is an Emergency Room nurse and has worked with DCMH for 4 years.

Dennis stated, “Nursing is so versatile. I love helping those who want help and trying to encourage those who do not want help. I enjoy mentoring/educating students and new nurses in achieving their goals.”

Congratulations to Tammy and Dennis for representing DCMH!
