Tiffany Lauyans’ connection to Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) began in childhood, having been a patient of Dr. Boersma’s from a young age. That long-standing trust in her care team grew even stronger in 2016 with the birth of her daughter. Like many mothers, Tiffany felt the nervousness that comes with welcoming a new baby—but the support she received made all the difference. “Even my mom noticed how well the nurses cared for my daughter during birth—their compassion, quality of care, and ability to ease my anxiety really stood out,” Tiffany shared.

Tiffany continued building relationships with the medical team and was recommended to start seeing Kelly Miller, FNP-C, in 2023 when Kelly joined DCMH. “I was so comfortable with Kelly from the start. It felt like I was talking to a family member who truly cared about my health. She’s very outgoing, very professional, and she keeps me informed about what’s going on. She’s always there with a helping hand,” Tiffany shared.

When Tiffany began seeing Kelly, she was struggling with her diabetes medication. The medication wasn’t working as it should, making her feel dizzy, fatigued, and grouchy — symptoms that were completely out of character for her. When she discussed these issues with Kelly, she suggested switching to a different treatment plan. “Kelly knows my body better than I do. She was there to help me when I needed it,” Tiffany said. The new medication worked wonders, and Tiffany felt much better.

Tiffany isn’t the only one who values the care she receives from Kelly—her entire family have become patients, too. Her 9-year-old daughter recently had a check-up and, for the first time, felt completely at ease. “My daughter is usually a little nervous, but she was very comfortable during her check-up. Kelly has a way of conn

ecting with each of us—me, my husband, and our kids—on our level,” Tiffany shared.

Her son also requested to switch to Kelly after tagging along to one of Tiffany’s appointments. When he returned for his own sports physical, he immediately noticed the positive energy. “The atmosphere is welcoming, and Kelly and the entire DCMH team treat everyone with such kindness,” Tiffany added.

Tiffany’s husband, David Lauyans, is also under Kelly’s care and speaks highly of both Kelly and her medical assistant, Skyeler. The two have supported David through his weight loss journey—helping manage his blood pressure, blood sugar, and A1c, while also working diligently to find a cost-effective way to access the medication he needed.

“Kelly’s really good, and Skyeler has gone above and beyond,” David said. “They’ve both provided great care for me—and our children.”

Tiffany’s connection to DCMH runs deep, and she continues to be grateful for the exceptional care her family receives. Originally from Rushville, Tiffany’s roots are strong in the area, and she’s thrilled to be able to provide her family with the best care. “It all ties together. From when I was a little girl, to my daughter’s birth, to finding the right provider in Kelly, I feel welcomed and supported. This hospital has been there for me and my family through every step of our journey.”

Tiffany’s journey with DCMH reflects the power of compassionate, personalized care—not just for one individual, but for an entire family. Tiffany is grateful for the medical professionals who have made all the difference. “I couldn’t ask for better care. Kelly Miller, Dr. Boersma, and everyone here make me feel like I’m part of something special,” Tiffany said with a smile.
