DCHM Senior Life Solutions Program raising Mental Health Awareness

Greensburg, Ind. – Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) Each year millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental health condition. According to the National Alliance on Mental Health, one in five Americans will be affected by a mental health condition in their lifetime. In the month of May, many participants across the country are raising awareness for the importance of mental health. This year, Senior Life Solutions at DCMH is helping fight stigmas, provide support, educate the public and advocate for equal care.

Senior Life Solutions raises mental health awareness by offering free mental health screening to seniors in need and providing education to the community on mental health.

Their program, an intensive outpatient group therapy program, is designed to meet the unique needs of older adults over the age of 65 struggling with depression and anxiety often related to aging. Individuals may be suffering from depression and anxiety if they are experiencing any of the following common indicators or triggers:

  • Loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities
  • Changes in appetite
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Loss of energy
  • Feelings of sadness or grief lasting more than two weeks
