Star Award Winner

Emily Schmid is the DCMH 2023 3rd Quarter Star winner. Emily has been a Physical Therapist with DCMH’s Rehabilitation Services team since 2016. Emily earned her Bachelor of Science from Indiana University and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from IUPUI. A born-and-raised resident of Batesville, IN, Emily is married to her husband Tyler and has two children, Regan, 6, and Nolan, 3. Additionally, she has an 8-year-old German shepherd, Penny. Outside work, she enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors, and vacationing at the beach.

Emily attributes her success in her role to being empathetic and compassionate with each patient, particularly if they are in pain or unable to do the things they would normally be able to do. In her own words, “Always treat the patient as if they are a close family member. Try to actively listen to what’s important to them.”

Emily’s nomination exemplifies her commitment to service and treating her patients with compassion and care. Her nomination states, “She has many grateful patients who appreciate her genuine, caring attitude towards them. She also treats patients during lunchtime if her schedule is too full to see them during regular hours. She takes an interest in her coworkers’ and patients’ lives and displays the values of the hospital’s mission and vision statements to everyone she is in contact with.”

Reflecting on her role, she states her favorite part of her job is being able to work with and help people improve their mobility and ease their pain. She loves being able to connect with people. Emily’s favorite memory during her time at DCMH was the announcement of the new rehab facility and being involved with the planning of this facility. Emily’s dedication to her patients and her team, compassion, and commitment to providing quality care are undeniable, and her nomination is a testament to this.
