Cancer care is nothing new at DCMH. In fact, cancer care has been a service line offered at Decatur County Memorial Hospital for over 10 years. The team at DCMH is constantly providing patients with services to encourage recovery and return to an active lifestyle. Our Cancer Care department is fully accredited by the American College of Surgeons—Commission on Cancer (ACoS-COC), a national accrediting organization with high standards for care. It’s a testament to our program, given that only one in four hospitals have achieved this level of recognition.
Currently, Cancer Care is located on the third floor of the older hospital building. However, beginning in 2016, and thanks to the support of the many community donors during our Hospital Foundation’s REACH Capital Campaign, they will be relocating to their new center in the hospital’s new wing. Just a convenient elevator ride to the fourth floor, the new location utilizes existing space and will provide easier access to patients.
The convenient new facility will also offer cancer patients and their loved ones a new level of comfort and care, with seven treatment bays and four examination rooms offering the latest amenities. Careful consideration was taken in the design of the new center, as the DCMH Cancer Care staff took an active role in planning for patient accommodations. Cindy Daihl, manager of Cancer Care said, “With the new Cancer Center, we will be able to see more patients at one time. I am looking forward to having more space and increasing the patient’s overall treatment experience.”
Our Cancer Care offers additional services to the community such as an Outpatient Infusion Center that includes medications and blood products as ordered by your physicians or specialist. Highly trained infusion nurses ensure the best possible outcome for you. The Outpatient Infusion Center provides a convenient solution for community members to receive their infusion treatments close to home.
