School Based Virtual Care
Decatur County Memorial Hospital utilizes a virtual care platform to offer virtual services at our local schools. Virtual Care provides students and staff with an easy, convenient, cost-effective way to access quality medical care through a virtual office visit.
What is Virtual Care?
Virtual Care uses video technology to connect you with a DCMH provider to diagnose and treat minor injuries and acute illnesses
such as:
- Ear Infections
- Coughs/Colds
- Strep Throat
- Viruses/Flu
- Pink Eye
- Rashes
How Does it Work?
An appointment will be set-up with a DCMH provider. With assistance from the school nurse, the DCMH provider can use video technology to examine the heart, lungs, throat, ears, abdomen, skin and temperature. The provider will conduct the exam and determine a diagnosis and treatment.
If prescriptions are necessary, the provider will call in the prescriptions to a pharmacy of your choice. A summary of the visit will be available on the DCMH portal.
Can Virtual Care be Billed To My Insurance?
School-based Virtual Care services will be billed to your insurance company as a normal office visit. If you do not have insurance, services will be billed based on a 25% uninsured discount. No student will be denied services due to inability to pay. If you lack health insurance coverage, your child may still be eligible for insurance coverage. To inquire about insurance or help in applying, please contact Decatur County Memorial Hospital’s ClaimAid resource at 812-663-1257.
Who Will Provide This Service?
All virtual health care visits and services are provided by DCMH providers; DCMH does not contract visits to a 3rd party.
