GREENSBURG — The skies were gray and the wind was blowing, but no rain came for this year’s Hospital Foundation “Event ‘fore’ Caring” Golf Outing.  Twenty-eight teams took to the links in search of fame and glory, and to benefit the Hospital Foundation of Decatur County and the projects of Decatur County Memorial Hospital.

According to Hospital Foundation Director Bryan Robbins, over 110 golfers participated in the event, now in its 9th year.  The Event “Fore” Caring features numerous side competitions throughout the day, including a “Draw ‘Fore’ Poker” Game, hole-in-one contests, skills competitions, and a chance to putt for an iPad Mini, in addition to the tournament itself.  The wind and weather favored those familiar with the course and it was the North Branch GC team, consisting of Angela Belter, Cliff Hildebrand, Joey Dwenger, and Joseph Gauck, that walked away with the top prize after firing a 23 under par.  Daryl Smith, Brad Smith, Tom Stewart and Blake O’Mara made up the First Federal Savings & Loan team that pulled-out 2nd place, and 3rd place was captured by the team from Arbor Grove represented by Brenda Gridley, Tony Prickel, Jeff Olsen, and Alvin Dickman.2014-09-10 04.43.54
This outing also featured a raffle provided by Aspen Place Health Campus, with all of the proceeds going to the Mammogram Assistance Program at DCMH.  The raffle’s theme was based on the “Tee-Off ‘fore’ Ta-Ta’s” event coming up this Friday, September 19th.

Robbins called the day a great success: “Events like these are always stressful to plan, but the time and support we received from hospital employees, volunteers and others really made the entire day run quite well.”  Robbins was happy with this year’s turnout: “It’s always wonderful to see such a large number of teams and sponsors take a genuine interest in healthcare in our community.  It’s through events like these that the Hospital Foundation is able to support the projects and programs within the hospital that benefit the health of our family neighbors and friends.”  The Hospital Foundation of Decatur County funds such programs as low-cost Flu vaccinations, the Re-Charge program targeting elementary students, iPads for therapy, Healthy Fairs throughout the county, and much more.  “We understand that a healthy community is a prosperous community, and Decatur County Memorial Hospital is a leader in that regard.  Supporting the Hospital Foundation ensures this continued progress.”

The event was chaired by Guy Folkman and Daryl Smith for the fourth year.

In addition to Folkman and Smith, the event committee included John Wilson, Brad Green, Jim Sturges, Randy Domingo, David Fry, Nancy Sheffer, Vicki Rudolf and Aaron McElhoe.

Members of the Hospital Foundation Board include President- Susan Burkhart, Vice President- Daryl Smith,  Treasurer-Cris Reynolds, Secretary-Nancy Sheffer, Cleo Duncan, George Reiger, Linda Simmons, Dr. Mary McCullough, Mary Sue McGinn, Joan Eversole, Lisa Tressler, and Dudley Myers.
