DCMH HOSTS ANNUAL SPIRIT OF WOMEN SYMPOSIUM

Greensburg, IN – DCMH’s partnership with the Spirit of Women program serves over 1,000 members in the Decatur County area, its surrounding counties, and even beyond. Spirit of Women centers its membership on empowering women to take control of their health. With the evening’s theme of, “Grow through what you go through,” attendees listened and learned about many ways in which they could prioritize and take care of their mental health.

The event began with an introduction from Amy Sandman and Dawn Chance from DCMH Senior Life Solutions. The two educated the audience on ways to screen for mental and behavioral health and when it may be time to consider seeking professional help. Their services, designed to uniquely work with each individual, are geared toward patients 65 and older. The evening was followed by two speakers, Desirae Moore, LCSW, and Sammy Toney, Miss Indiana USA 2022. Desirae Moore practices at DCMH’s Tree City Medical Providers campus. Moore spoke of the ways in which life experiences and changes may impact one’s mental health and how to sustain positive mental health practices. Further, keynote speaker and GCHS graduate, Sammy Toney, Miss Indiana USA 2022, gave insight on the power of “not yet.” Toney discussed her pageant journey, its impact on her, and the connections she still holds to the Decatur County community.

The event then began activities to engage participants. Attendees played games and partook in a chair yoga demonstration. Nyree Wessler of YogaLife Studio demonstrated a yoga practice that could be done entirely seated in a chair, making the practice one the participants could continue at home. DCMH Dietary Team served the highly-anticipated chocolate buffet. Finally, door prizes were raffled off thanks to generous donations from local community members and organizations.
