Diabetes Education – February Classes

An event every week that begins at 10:00 am on Wednesday, repeating until February 19, 2026

Diabetes can be controlled and the progression of complications delayed with an individual treatment program that includes diet, exercise, and/or medication.

Diabetes classes offered at Decatur County Memorial Hospital are designed to teach the person with diabetes and his/her family more about the disease and how to implement lifestyle changes to avoid complications. A Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) and Registered Dietitian teach all sessions that follow curriculum standards of the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES) Diabetes Education Accreditation Program (DEAP).

Class Topics Include:

  • Overview of diabetes
  • Healthy eating with a focus on: Building a balanced plate, meal patterns to support blood sugar management, portion control, food and nutrient groups, eating out strategies, meal planning, and much more!
  • Role of exercise in treatment
  • Medications available to treat diabetes
  • Blood glucose testing and monitoring
  • Ways to reduce risks for short and long-term complications
  • Problem solving and goal setting

    Each session consists of a series of three – two-hour classes and registration is required to attend the classes. Classes are covered by most insurance companies. Please call your insurance company for coverage details.

    To register or for more information, call 812-663-1341. You must register in order to participate in the class. Your insurance will be billed for the cost of the class.
